About Seneca College
Sept. 6, 1967: Seneca opened its doors with founding President William Newnham. That first year had 852 full-time and 1,067 part-time students enrolled in 20 diploma and certificate programs.
Today, Seneca is Canada's largest college with campuses throughout the Toronto and Greater Metro Toronto Area having approximately 90,000 part-time and 17,000 full-time students. Leading areas of study include biotechnology, business, computer studies and health sciences. Seneca's accounting and finance, aviation, early childhood education, environmental, electronic engineering, fashion, fire protection, international business and marketing, law, and 3D digital animation programs have received national and international acclaim.
The Installation
APS is pleased to have been a key partner with Seneca over the past few years providing complete audio visual services for classrooms across their multiple campuses. Projects have ranged in size from 20-30 classrooms installed at one time to 75 - and all in a very short timeframe given the heavy classroom usage and a growing population of students.
Each classroom is designed in a similar fashion for ease of teacher use and also for long term maintenance. The installations include a mix of Hitachi and Epson projectors installed using the Vision mounting system and electric screens at the front of the classroom. Off to the side are custom designed lecterns which include one button Crestron touch panel control to start up all devices. A security code can be punched into the control panel and allow for access to the devices stored in the lectern which include audio amplifiers, volume control and DVD/VCR for video playback. A number of specially designated classrooms feature a complete surround-sound processor and audio system.
In addition to the supply, installation and maintenance of all audio visual equipment, the APS project management team was also assigned the task of managing the electrical and wire conduit installation in all rooms as well as the core drilling and drywall work required to bring the classrooms to the 21st century in design and functionality.
